2009/2010 Jav Arsenal Awards

As the tradition that it is in this belated blog, I finally bring you the 2009-2010 Jav Arsenal Awards. In the previous seasons I have given this seemingly argumented award for the sole reason of entertainment and, ultimately, recognition. Always you can return to last season's prospects and see if our cherished oracle device could have spotted something in the fog. In the EURO 2008 we met some terrible players as well as some astonishing performances; this season is practically the same.

With the World Cup coming over the summer, I will make an extensive review of the tournament with each match played reviewed. The improvements made in this season's posts are the extensive grammatical revisions as well as the text blocks to facilitate reading. Original images from matches are available with the documented source as well as extensive links with previews and match reactions from other sites and blogs. The usual overall balance by each position is provided among with several common things with the other awards, and obviously new additions. Enjoy!

In the internet universe there are a couple of lists that include some type of awards. Tom Adams makes a thorough rating of all Arsenal players from last season. David Young produces some assessments which look into the next season rather than an actual score as we do here. Nevertheless his three pieces on the subject (1, 2, 3- duh!)
are particularly enlightening.

Gunnerblog's elections, although more brief, are similar to my ratings. There is no point in proving who an argument of who is right or wrong since this type of posts exist in the realm of the viewer and supporter's response and can easily fall in the biased section. Still his selection is well argumented. He also makes this incredible month-by-month season review which I highly recommend.

Best Young Player of the Season
Again, the average of age in the team, for this awards, is U-21.

Ramsey enjoyed a fairly successful season before his injury.

Aaron Ramsey

The young Wales international made an outstanding start of the season enjoying 17 appearances and 4 goals. His form both physical and mental was absolutely and completely spot on. Before his horrid injury against Stoke the bloke made some key contributions and were his long passing kept him dissapointed in the past, he bounced off with more control and mental decision. We all hope the best for him in his long recovery; if he goes past it, a bright career in read and white looks promisory ahead.

Worst Young Player of the Season

One goal against Liverpool at the Emirates.

Fran Mérida

What in the name of the lord is Francisco Mérida making in Arsenal's first team? Is it because he his a fairly talented, young Spanish promise or because he fits the Cesc mould? I really ignore why the likes of this Spanish midfielder trains week in week out. He made two goals, one particularly good, and that was pretty much it. His contribution was minimum and the effort and passion driven by his feet was among the poorest standard. Probably when his contract expires he will return to his native land.

Best Player of the Season

The influential Spanish mastermind.
[Photo: John Sibley/Action Images via Guardian]

Cesc Fábregas

What more can we say about him? His best scoring tally in his stay at North London has booked him a place in Spain's World Cup final squad. Aside from the impressive 36 appearances he made 19 goals in all competitions leaving him as the sole maximum scorer; he was one of the four players in double-figure scoring. His contribution in key games as well as the inspiration and leadership took his performances worth of an Arsenal legend. It is imperative that Arsene keeps him this summer despite the ferocious attacks of Laporta.

2-Alex Song
3-Thomas Vermaelen

Worst Player of the Season

Deceptive, to say the least.

Lukasz Fabianski

He made ten appearances: some of them covering an "injured" Almunia, some of them by choice and some of them because this world does not seem to have a rational logic from time to time. We all remember that night in Portugal and also that game in Belgium. Despite of all his crass mistakes, lack of commanding, technique and ability, he had several chances to prove some courage. Instead the poor Pole managed to pull in every single appearance a sardonic joke that raised eyebrows across the continent. The rest is history.

2-Manuel Almunia
3-Fran Merida

Best Match of the Season

1-Arsenal 2-2 Barcelona (UCL)

Although the match ended with a two-goal stalemate, we saw one of the most powerful sieges the history of football has seen: within twenty minutes the Catalans put in the edge of the sword the home team. The Arsenal managed to escape with the point but the spectacle was worth the watch; probably the most important match held at the Emirates so far.

2-Everton 1-6 Arsenal (EPL)

Sad Toffees.

Practically, this match set everyone dreaming: the performance though brilliant, was enhanced by the dreadful defending and poor pre-season work the Liverpudlian made. One thing to note, was the applauses many home supporters made to the Gunners' effort.

3-Arsenal 4-2 Bolton (EPL)

Moments of tension
[Photo: Robin Jones/Digital South via Daily Mail]

The Gunners are masters in the act of late goals - both when receiving and making - and this match was not the exception.

4-Arsenal 5-0 Porto (UCL)

Nasri, in a true moment of brilliance
[Photo: Sportinglife.com]

The game was in itself a dangerous sand-trap since the home team needed it to win in order to go through the next stage of the Champions League: they just did that and with two perfect performances from two men, Nasri and Bendtner. The sole action of Nasri made it astonishing and he has been awarded, for that goal, the goal of the season award.

5-Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham (EPL)

A remarkable performance from both players.

Arsenal's first game against Spurs resulted in a tremendous show of pounding and humiliation. Cesc Fábregas took the evening by surprise stealing the show with a Zidane-esque effort.

It took some twenty-some minutes for an injured Cesc Fábregas to take the game from a bore fest into a safe win to grasp the fourth place.

Worst match of the season

1-Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea (EPL)

Drogba, the tormentor.

The battle was done and dusted within the first half as Drogba pulled another trick from his special delivery hat to Wenger's men. Th Ivorian striker was in his prime as he scored two past the wretched defence.

2-Wigan 3-2 Arsenal (EPL)

Walcott scored the first, then he deluded.

Arsenal's deceptive stance continued as the Latics came back from a two-goal deficit at their home ground.

3-Standard Liege 2-3 Arsenal (UCL)

Euforic!
[Photo: Jamie McDonald/Getty Images Europe via Zimbio.com]

Despite the positive outcome in Belgium, the Gunners enjoyed one of their poorest away performances in Europe for the past years. With the aid of the terrible defending of Vermaelen's countrymen, the visitors managed to pull all three points from the hostile ground

4-Tottenham 2-1 Arsenal (EPL)

When Garreth Bale scores you're pretty much in deep shit, isn't it?

5-Stoke 3-1 Arsenal (FA)

Full-er joy.
[Photo: Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images Europe via Zimbio.com]

Arsenal's only real possibility of winning something went down the cliff as Fuller scored in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

*-Man Utd 2-1 Arsenal (EPL)

Rare view from the stands.

And well, the bitter end of the almost-comical Wenger came in the stands of Old Trafford was among the highlights of a strange match.

Best Goal of the Season

I just thought that it would be a blimey thing to set an array of three or five goals, so I put ten of the best goals Arsenal scored throughout the season. The official site compilation, contained nearly all of mentioned below.

1-Samir Nasri v. Porto (Emirates-UCL)
2-Cesc Fábregas v. Tottenham (Emirates-EPL)
3-Cesc Fábregas v. Aston Villa (Emirates-EPL)
4-Cesc Fábregas v. Blackburn (Emirates-EPL)
5-Andrey Arshavin v. Hull (KC Stadium-EPL)
6-Alex Song v. Portsmouth (Fratton park-EPL)
7-Aaron Ramsey v. Porstmouth (Fratton Park-EPL)
8-Tomas Rosicky v. Everton (Emirates-EPL)
9-Abou Diaby v. AZ Alkmaar (Emirates-UCL
10-Cesc Fábregas v. Burnley (Emirates-EPL)

Best Young Revelation

1-Alex Song
2-Aaron Ramsey
3-Craig Eastmond

Best Revelation

1-Craig Eastmond
2-Sol Campbell
3-Henry Landsbury

In the nurse's favourites section we have Mexico international Carlos Vela. Robin is not mentioned due to his enormous contribution to the club, even with a five-month absence.

3-Johan Djourou

Players to Watch

Replacing his fellow countrymen?

Defence: Havard Nordtveit and Wojciech Szczesny are the available prospects in this department.

Midfield:

Craig Eastmond should establish himself as the best candidate to replace Song if the Cameroon midfielder encounters injury. Jack Wilshere's loan at Bolton gave him valuable playing time; he should be able to show his worth. Tom Cruise, Mark Randall and Henry Landsbury should secure valuable bench-places.

Forward:

Here Barazite in the Derby shirt.

Nacer Barazite again needs to prove that he is not a reserve player anymore. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Jay Simpson should also provide some show in the Carling Cup.

Best Defender: Thomas Vermaelen
Best Midfielder: Cesc Fábregas

2008/2009 Jav's Arsenal Awards

Always with the goal of improving and bringing the tradition of the awards, already made from last season EURO 2008, I am delighted to bring you, dear reader, the 2008/2009 Jav's Arsenal Awards. Among many improvements made in posts are the triple match picture features and half block columns, along with extended grammar and spelling revision. You know dear reader, that I close the season with a full round up, and the fact that many people do the that in the final part of the year irritates me, so I do it at season's end. I will try to contrast it with the previous season regarding the figures and prospects that I had this previous term. The usual overall balance by each position is provided among with several common things with the other awards, and some new adds. Enjoy dear reader!

Best Young Player of the Season
Again, the average of age in the team, for this awards, is U-23.

Jack Wilshere: It is true that the beginning of the season did cost him a lot but when he found his pace, the toll of goals and appearances increased, covering a position that needed refreshment and which provided the final step he needed: confidence. Obviously his chances will decrease but his early impact in the season did make some Gooners sigh but his growth as a player in Arsenal's side will certainly become a subject of interest in the next years. His performances for both reserves and youth teams earned him the double that the Arsenal youth ranks can presume to have now.

Worst Young Player of the Season

Not even a stain of dirt!

Amaury Bischoff: If someone skipped him in any review or comment it may well be the same as skipping breakfast ona busy day. Slow, clumsy and perma-crooked, the Portuguese midfielder did not feature in the starting eleven for the team in a whole year, being one of the "major siginings" by Wenger last summer, with a couple of passes, tackles and a shot among his repertoire in the four appeareances, all as substitue, this season. Maybe the best picture of him is watching him above Jack Wilshere and Lukas Fabiasnki, above the bench, in the place for injured players.

Best Goal of the Season

1-Arsenal 4-0 Blackburn by Andrei Arshavin

And incredibly stunning goal, offered only through a Playstation match. Magnifique display of footwork, technique, speed and finishing, top class.

2-Villareal 1-1 Arsenal by Emmanuel Adebayor
Tremendous technique in what was a match-winning goal, considering the circumstances.

3-Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal by Andrey Arshavin
The final touch to a dream night that saw him as the giant. Event though the party was spoiled by the late equalizer his deed shall remain in the Gunner's memory long enough.

*-Special Mention Arsenal 6-0 Sheffield United by Carlos Vela
The second in his three goal tally that day, saw his main asset to arise as the Gunners' brightest immediate star.

Best Match of the Season

1-Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal (EPL)
A heart-breaking game that saw how the Gunners resurged from the bottoms to see the best spirit of the team.

2-Newcastle 1-3 Arsenal (EPL)With the Toon Army support, the Geordies managed to keep Arsenal on a tight leash for sixty minutes, in a speedy good match.

3-Arsenal 3-0 Villareal (UCL)
The solid display put the Gunners in the semifinals of the European tournament.

*-Shefield Utd 0-6 Arsenal
The tremendous haul of goals that the youngsters provided is among the best performances in Carling Cup history.

Worst match of the season
1-AS Roma 1-0 Arsenal (UCL)
A terrible display by the north Londoners was spared by the excellent penalties execution.

2-Stoke 2-1 Arsenal (EPL)
Rory Delap and the horrid defending gave the Potters the home win at Britannia Stadium

3-Arsenal 0-0 Fenerbahce (UCL)
One of the most boring matches that I have ever seen in my entire life ended in a goaless draw. Nothing to do with the previous match in Turkey. If you can avoid repetition or skip in season review, do it, it will save you healthy neurons for the next day.

*-Tottenham 0-0 Arsenal (EPL)
In yet another London derby, the frail and childish stupor that emerged from London rivals was nothing compared with the eight goal thriller earlier in the season. Wenger's men were lucky to scrap a tie from Spurs, this time.

**-Arsenal 1-3 Man Utd
The final humiliation in yet another tough and sad end of season for two consecutive years. Cristiano Ronaldo outclassed the team in every departament, and even though Utd did not win the final, the wound remains open as last years' last gasp goal, courtesy of Owen Hargreaves.

Best Young Revelation

1-Jack Wilshere
2-Carlos Vela
3-Aaron Ramsey

Best Revelation

1-Andrey Arshavin
2-Jack Wilshere
3-Samir Nasri

Injured player of the Season

In the nurse's favorites section we have the ill-managed, ill-fated Czech captain. Cesc is not mentioned due to his enormous contribution to the club, even with a four-month digression.
1-Tomas Rosicky
2-Amaury Bischoff
3-Mikael Silvestre

Worst Player of the Season

1-Amaury Bischoff
2-Mikael Silvestre
3-Emmanuel Eboue

Best Player of the Season

1-Robin van Persie
-Andrey Arshavin
3-Samir Nasri

Players to Watch

Defense: As the previous year I expect the inclussion of Harvard Nordveit in a Carling Cup clash. Obviously the new signing Vermaelen will have to prove his value and the battle for the left back position between U21 Gibbs and Clichy.

Midfield: Fran Merida final jump to first team should be, not as the previous year, a secondary attraction while Jack Wilshere stole each and everyone attention last season. Aaron Ramsey, Mark Randall should all make greater efforts to jump into the first team. Alex Song clumsy performances evolved into neatly solid defensive displays and next season more will be expected from the youngster.

Forward: Nicklas Bendnter's impressive tally should be more regular and the bright start of Mexican Vela should bring him to a higher standard in the team. Nacer Barazite is the greatest doubt, and after a series of loan spells he should be availabke for some games. Also Emmanuel-Thomas and the double youth champions should be an interesting addition.

Best Goalkeeper: Manuel Almunia
Best Defender: Bacary Sagna
Best Midfielder: Samir Nasri
Best Striker: Robin van Persie

Jav Best Football Games/Sims Awards

This is my list of the best Football games/simulators I have ever played. Take in consideration that the consoles I own are by Nintendo (I know, I should have got a man's console like PS3 and not a shitty box that can throw bowling balls) or PC, so be aware. Suggestions are always open. Believe it or not I have not played FM 2009. Another list will be provided with the Worst Games. Enjoy!

5-International Superstar Soccer Deluxe (SNES/Konami, 1995)

If there is a game that can be tagged as classic this is the ultimate example. With a gameplay that was amicable to all, the graphics displayed at the time were awesome and the curious fact of the names (due to rights issues) made this game one of the most enjoyable, either playing alone or in a tournament with the lads. The cheats and strange arrays of bloopers gave it a touch of humour that has not been matched by any game, so far.

FINAL: 8.5

4-Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii/Konami, 2008)

400

After the immense failure of the FIFA 08 for Wii, Konami exploited the incredible capability of Wii Remote with the "point and play" feature that expanded the game with unlimited abilities. The fact that almost three players could be managed with the Remote offered very good and clever resolutions to many plays. Aside from that the dribbling was awesome and the career mode was unbelievably amusing. The online mode was a thing that SEGA lacked developing. Another thing, the Dutch squad was oficially registered with the real names of the players.

FINAL: 8.7

3-Football Manager 2008 (PC/SEGA, 2007)

400

The previous deliveries of this unique simulator still had some clumsy bugs that even with the online patches would not vanish, but SEGA team were intelligent enough to correct and add a complete and newly developed database of leagues around the globe. This concept was so succesful that even actual managers began to use the databases in order to track young talents. With over sixteen leagues and a 2D match engine the focus of your team could be placed in the development of young promises, the marketing or even the match itslef. But the power of this simulator was so overwhelming that even outnumbered the most skilled player, with such details that every week between matchdays could take for real weeks.

FINAL: 9.0

2-2006 FIFA World Cup (NGC/EA Sports, 2006)

400

With the inertia of the World Cup coming at door's step, EA developed a fast, agile and manoeuvrable engine to upgrade the previous FIFA 2006. With all FIFA affiliated teams on the record the classic take-your-country-to-Berlin road was included. The wide range of details suc as player creation (with brand boots and everything), the many records and special classic players features, bonus venues and balls and even history facts in the beginning of each match made this game a fair competitor with any FIFA regular season game. And it was the speed and game difficulty that overpower, as the previous game in the list, the most experienced player. Bugs and hold-ups were among the differnt heaps of dirt this excellent game had.

FINAL: 9.3

1-FIFA 07 Soccer (NGC/EA Sports, 2006)

400

Even though it will raise controversy, for me is the best game ever. And it is difficult to make a review of it since it had such a complete gameplay that almost reached perfection, if it were not for the hold-ups on screen. EA did an outstanding job improving the 06 version. It exploited the somewhat limited capabilities of the Gamecube. The flow of the players' technique was marvelous, the detail in faces, boots and speed was strangely good for a Gamecube game. Practice and quick matches among full profile statistics ensured the player that nearly every detail was covered.
The manager mode was an entirely different thing and it was the enhacements over the previous version that made it outstand others, and inderectly helped the development of Football Manager. Among the control of the club with a tight grip from incoming younsters to club's economy, ranging through tactics and complete detailed yearly statistics the game had an unprecedent fifteen-year career mode, choosing over twelve leagues around the world. You could watch academy younsgters literally develop into 30 million behemoths in the course of five or six years. Maybe the outcome that had was that from year to year the mode became predictable and easy, but nonetheless the different perspectives thi game had have make it unvalubale to its utmost level.
Imagine, it has been three years and I still play it, as my first option.

FINAL: 9.8

*-FIFA Street 2 (NGC/EA Big, )Honor Mention.

400

Incredibly cheesy, fun and with whole range of details, this mode that was uncommon to the audience and returned more heavier with a different game perspective from the goal, end to end type. The unlimited quantity of tricks and the details added to the "career mode" made it a challenging effort to overcome. The volume of detail assembles among the level of difficult made it a fine pick to gather a bunch of friends and play for a whole afternoon before a match or a party. It is fun, but the actual fun of a nutmeg is as far as it gets.
The soundtrack has been by far one of the best the best issued on a football game, ranging from regional music from the differnt venues to Drum & bass and alternative rock.

2007/2008 season Jav Arsenal Awards

I have to say that many people expect the final balance of the season, that I will give, but today is the time for the recognition; the best and the worst, so enjoy. I know SOME bloggers will eventually copy my idea saying "alluding" to "my friend" so if you see any other awards of the year similar to mine you know who did it first (the IFFHS hahahaha) and who copied it. Of course many sites have been doing this a long time but when I refer to SOMEONE, that someone will now. I have seen The Cannon review and it may seem that we both agreed, although some obvious in some remarks. Happy birthday for The Cannon. Also an overall balance by each position is provided.

Best Young Player of the Season
Due to the average of age in the team I decided to make an U-19 account.

Theo Walcott: It is true that the beginning of the season did cost him a lot but when he found his pace the toll of goals increased, covering a position that needed refreshment, and certainly provided the final step he needed; confidence.

Worst Young Player of the Season

Justin Hoyte: It is clear that from the start the youngster was eager in showing himself in the first team, but the appearance of Bacary Sagana fainted the English any chance to at least glimpse Wenger. It is true that his couple of chances were shadowed by Traore's or Clichy's but he has to get out of the club immediately. He has no talent and neither the capacity to play in such a difficult position with the prowess of Sagna

Best Goal of the Season
1-AC Milan 0-1 Arsenal by Cesc Fabregas
The turning point in the Gunners career towards European challenge that ended abruptly in the North.

2-Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham by Nicklas Bendtner
The equalizer that shocked Spurs, even when the Dane was entering the pitch and the first touch on the ball.

3-Liverpool 4-2 Arsenal by Emmanuel Adebayor
The terrific, almost poetical and speedy run that Theo Walcott made was worth the semis, but...

Best Match of the Season
1-Bolton 2-3 (EPL)
A heart-breaking resurging from the bottoms saw the best spirit of the team

2-AC Milan 0-2 Arsenal (UCL)The last grasp to European glory was conceded through a nerve-wrecking enjoyable match.

3-Man Utd 2-1 Arsenal
Although the final whistle shattered all the hopes of a title, the game was nerve-cracking, full of play and a first-class worth game

Best Young Revelation
1-Nacer Barazite
2-Armand Traore
3-Nicklas Bendtner

Best Revelation
1-Bacary Sagna
2-Lukas Fabianski
3-Mathieu Flamini

Injured player of the Season
I obviously will not mention Eduardo for respect but this award is certainly for the players whose season was shadowed by the lack of will to overcome injures and mismanagment by own players. These are the nurse favorites.
1-Tomas Rosicky
2-Nieves Denilson
3-Robin van Persie

Worst Player of the Season
1-Justin Hoyte
2-Gilberto Silva
3-Emmanuel Eboué

Best Player of the Season
1-Emmanuel Adebayor
2-Francesc Fabregas
3-Bacary Sagna

Players to Watch*
Defense: Armand Trore and maybe the inclusion of Nordveit. Surely Sagna and Clichy will develop more throughout the season, regarding what happens at EURO.
Midfield: Certainly Cesc but the replacement for Mathieu Flamini, Kieran Gibbs and Fran Merida final jump to first team should be the main attractions. The new youngster from Cardiff, Aaron Ramsey should be a look too.
Forward: Obviously Theo's development. Nicklas future and above all Carlos Vela and his inclusion to English Football as well as young starlet Nacer Barazite.

*A deeper lowdown on Arsenal young players, from all specters ,can be seen in, a really tremend resource on all of our youngsters inland and abroad.

Best Goalkeeper: Manuel Almunia
Best Defender: Bacary Sagna
Best Midfielder: Francesc Fabregas
Best Striker: Emmanuel Adebayor
